Kitchen Story Sdn. Bhd. completed this residential interior design and custom cabinetry project at Sunway Cassia, Batu Maung, Penang, a terrace link house designed with a modern, practical, and family-friendly concept.

The project scope included interior design service, custom TV cabinet, kitchen cabinet, decorative mirror panel, feature display shelving, and built-in cabinetry works. The design direction focused on improving storage, creating a brighter living space, and enhancing the overall home appearance with clean lines, warm lighting, and practical material selections.

One of the key highlights of this project is the custom TV cabinet with honeycomb cubical display integration. The honeycomb feature creates a unique visual identity for the living area while functioning as a display shelf for decorative items. Combined with LED lighting, marble-look feature panels, dark frame details, and white cabinet panels, the TV wall becomes a strong focal point of the home.

For the kitchen, we designed and built a new custom kitchen cabinet using melamine ABS door and panel finishing, paired with a sintered stone countertop. The kitchen design uses a clean grey and white colour combination, helping the space look modern, neat, and easy to maintain for daily cooking use.

In the living and dining area, we installed a decorative mirror panel to visually enlarge the space. This helps reflect light, improve brightness, and create a more spacious feeling, especially suitable for terrace and link house layouts where natural width may be limited.

The client was very satisfied with the completed work, especially the balance between design appearance, storage function, and practical daily usability.

Design Concept

The overall design concept is modern, bright, and functional, with a strong focus on practical storage and visual enhancement.

The living area uses white cabinet panels, dark trimming, warm wood tones, and LED lighting to create a clean but stylish feature wall. The honeycomb display shelves add character and help the TV wall stand out without making the space feel too heavy.

The decorative mirror panel near the dining area improves the sense of space and makes the home feel wider and brighter. This is a smart design solution for terrace houses where the living and dining areas are usually arranged in a long layout.

For the kitchen, grey surface textures, white cabinet panels, dark countertop details, and sintered stone finishing create a clean modern kitchen that is suitable for daily family use.

Challenges

1. Creating a Strong Living Room Feature Without Overcrowding the Space

The living area needed a feature wall that looked impressive but not too heavy. A full-height cabinet wall could make the space feel crowded if not planned properly.

2. Making the Terrace House Feel More Spacious

As with many terrace and link house layouts, the living and dining area can feel long and narrow. The challenge was to make the space feel wider, brighter, and more open.

3. Combining Display Function and Storage Function

The client wanted a TV cabinet that could provide storage while also displaying selected items. A normal TV cabinet would be functional but not visually distinctive enough.
